02 Jul 2006As we continue to enjoy the long days and warm weather of summer it may seem odd to be raising the issue of heating systems here at Amaravati. But some of you who may have visited here during the Winter Retreat would have noticed that the resident community had decamped to the Retreat Centre shrine room for group meditation practice. This was the much warmer option, however, the space proved to be too small to comfortably accommodate this large community.

03 Jun 2006Rocana Vihara - ‘Radiant Dwelling’ Recently the property beside Aloka Cottage became available. Given its ideal location and the shortage of accommodation in the Nuns’ Community, the English Sangha Trust decided to purchase it. It will be known as Rocana Vihara, or ‘radiant’ dwelling - after Sister Rocana, the first nun to take ordination in England.
The Rocana Vihara project will greatly benefit the whole community. The significant addition to the existing facilities will provide support for a sustainable women’s community in a place that is well suited for Dhamma practice. As it will also alleviate pressure on the communal spaces in the main house, it supports the well being of everyone at Cittaviveka—monks as well as nuns.

31 May 2006Over the last 3 months the Amaravati Community have been working on redesigning the old website and the current website is hopefully a better user experience. There are two main ways of navigating the new website - from the drop down menu on each page and secondly the Site map The website is powered by Expression Engine, a free, open source Content Management System based on php and mySQL. |
