Take M1 to Junction 8. Follow A414 to Hemel town centre.
From roundabout at Hemel Hempstead town centre:
Take A4146 (Leighton Buzzard). About 4 miles later, after crossing a very narrow one-lane bridge in Water End, turn left at crossroads sign-posted Great Gaddesden, (Wyevale garden centre at the corner). Go past the village, up the hill, and turn right as soon as you see the sign for St Margaret’s where the road forks. (You’ll know you’ve missed the turn if you find yourself in the village of Nettleden; in which case, turn around and follow the directions below.) Go past the houses, until you see the large double gates of Amaravati on your left. Turn in and find a parking space among the other cars.
From West/North West:
Drive to Berkhamsted. At traffic lights at centre of town, turn into Lower Kings Rd. (which becomes Station Rd.); follow it to T-junction (Gravel Path). Turn left (uphill) and drive to Nettleden (3 miles). Here, take a right uphill road, signposted Gt. Gaddesden (directly opposite the church). Go over the crest of the hill and take first left turn (very sharp—you’ll know you’ve gone too far if you find yourself in the village of Great Gaddesden.) Once you’ve made the left turn towards St. Margaret’s, drive along the road past the houses, until you see the large double gates of Amaravati on your left. Turn in and find a parking space among the other cars.
