On Saturday, July 4, 2009 Amaravati Buddhist Monastery will celebrate three auspicious events in one day.
July 4 this year is the 10th anniversary of the Temple opening on July 4, 1999. This summer also marks 25 years since the Sangha arrived at Amaravati in 1984. These events will be celebrated with an upasampada (higher ordination ceremony) for four men, welcoming them into the Bhikkhu Sangha.
The candidates come from all four of our UK monasteries: Sāmanera Appamādo from Amaravati, Sāmanera Visuddhi from Aruna Ratanagiri Monastery, Sāmanera Kondañño from Cittaviveka Monastery and Anagārika Norman from Hartridge Monastery. They plan to formally request admission to the Bhikkhu Sangha on July 4 in the Amaravati Temple, in a ceremony commencing at 1:00pm. Luang Por Sumedho will preside over this ceremony as the Upajjaya, or Preceptor. Everyone is warmly welcome to attend.
The meal offering takes place at 11.30am, to which all are welcome to participate.
