This day, sometimes called ‘Sangha Day,’ commemorates the spontaneous assembly of twelve hundred and fifty arahants in the Buddha’s presence.

Wesak Celebration

June 03 2012

The Wesak celebration at Amaravati will take place on Sunday, 3 June 2012. We will commence the celebration with a rice-pindapat (almsround) sometime around 10.30 a.m., followed by the meal offering. A Dhamma Talk will be offered in the early afternoon. Please join us!

Kathina Festival

November 25 2012

A Kathina Festival will be held at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery on Sunday, 25 November. The Kathina is a tradition that has been followed for over 2500 years. It takes place during the month following the end of the Vassa (the three months’ Rains Retreat). At the time of Kathina, lay followers make a special offering of the Kathina cloth, and in addition other requisites to the Sangha.

Kathina is a very happy, warm-hearted time for celebration. It is a time to come together, focusing on the single act of generosity of offering the cloth.
