Celebrating the Māgha Pūjā

Julian WallEvents & Ceremonies

On the 26th February the Amaravati community celebrated the Māgha Pūjā, commemorating the auspicious gathering of 1,250 Arahants and the Buddha’s teaching of the Ovādapātimokkha.

Luang Por Sumedho gave a Dhamma talk in the afternoon and in the evening the whole community gathered in the cloister to recite verses from the Ovādapātimokkha.

After the recitation a creative arrangement of lights and candles prepared by the nuns and winter support team warmly surprised the community, with the night’s chill diminished by the glittering appearance of the Stupa.
