Vesākha Festival (Wesak) Sunday June 3rd 2018

Amaravati WebmasterEvents & Ceremonies

The monastery invites you to our Vesākha (Wesak) celebrations, also known as ‘Buddha Day’, on Sunday June 3rd

This is the public celebration of the three key events in the Buddha’s life that are traditionally considered to have taken place on the full moon of May: his birth, awakening to full enlightenment under the bodhi tree at the age of thirty five, and his final passing away, parinibbāna, aged eighty.

In the morning there will be paritta chanting in the temple followed by a rice pindapat.  In the afternoon there will be a going forth ceremony for 2 of our anagarikas followed by a Dhamma talk, the schedule being:-

10:30 – Paritta chanting
11:00 – Rice Pindabaht
13:45 – Requesting the Refuges & Precepts
13:50 – Sanghadāna & Anumodanā
14:00 – Pabbajjā for A Davis & A Jiri
15:00 – Dhamma-talk
We look forward to welcoming you for this special event.
